HOT TOPICS
WHERE'S THE STIMULUS? -- Obama promised to fix the economy and that 95 percent of Americans would receive a tax cut. Instead we get unemployment at a 26 year high. Payrolls are falling more than forecast. U.S. mortgage applications are at a seven-month low. Government is forcing gas prices to go up. And many states are going bankrupt.
LIVING IT UP . . . AT TAXPAYER EXPENSE -- Deficit? What deficit? While you struggle to make ends meet, Democrats are spending tax money like there's no tomorrow! Travel expenses by members of Congress have increased ten-fold. Nancy Pelosi spends $300,000 of your money every week flying to various fundraisers and parties. Taxpayers footed the bill -- estimated at $73,000 -- for Barack Obama's date night with his wife. One Ohio Democrat is bragging about the $3.5 billion bribe she got for voting for the new cap and trade energy tax. Banks are using stimulus money to pay for big pay increases and bonuses. While the rest of the nation suffers, the Democrats continue to steal and plunder.
CLIMATE OF GREED: DEMS PASS BIGGEST TAX INCREASE IN U.S HISTORY -- While other countries are busy dismantling their job-killing cap and trade legislation, Congressional Democrats vote FOR it. They voted for it, yet none have even bothered to read it. Many Democrats and almost all Republicans voted against it. Almost none of the 535 House members actually bothered to read the bill. One Democrat was upset that his leaders would needlessly force vulnerable Dems to vote for a bill that will come back to haunt them. Glenn Beck reports that items in the bill include additional money for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, a law that all new buildings have a place to plug in an electric-hybrid vehicle, and the establishment of something called "green banking centers". It is also a jobs killer -- it raises the costs of manufacturing which will send even more American jobs overseas.
HOW THEY VOTED -- CAP AND TRADE
A "YES" vote is a vote FOR the largest tax increase in U.S. History -- a massive new energy tax on every man, woman, and child in America. According to the Wall Street Journal, the tax will cost American households an extra $6,800 per year. Rasmussen reports that 56 percent of Americans do NOT want to pay higher taxes to fight global warming.
DIST 1 - Tim Walz (D) -- YES DIST 5 - Keith Ellison (D) -- YES
DIST 2 - John Kline (R) -- NO DIST 6 - Michele Bachmann (R)  -- NO
DIST 3 - Erik Paulsen (R) -- NO DIST 7 - Colin Peterson (D) --YES
DIST 4 - Betty McCollum (D) -- YES DIST 8 - Jim Oberstar (D)  -- YES
PAWLENTY: OBAMA IS OUT OF CONTROL, IRRESPONSIBLE-- Governor Pawlenty: “…the President said in an interview not that long ago ‘We are out of money’ with all due respect Mr. President, if we’re out of money, quit spending it!” The Washington Post calls Obama's budget entitled: “Debt tsunami -- The CBO's warning on long-term debt is scarier than ever!”
SANFORD WEBSITE NEEDS UPDATING -- The site DraftSanford2012.com seems not to have been updated since June 9. One of the links (under "Learn More," on the lower right) is to a May 2008 U.S. News & World Report piece titled “10 Things You Didn't Know About Mark Sanford.” It's true, most of these are things you didn't know. All 10 of them, however, are less interesting than what you do know.
WHITE HOUSE SUPPORTS DICTATOR -- Honduras Defends Its Democracy; Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama object.
PLAYING POLITICS WITH CAR DEALERS -- A must-see video: Representative Michele Bachmann sounds the alarm about how "gangster government" has taken over Washington. She gives a compelling witness about how political connections -- not business needs -- are now determining which car dealers get to stay open and which ones have to shut their doors.
MINNEAPOLIS TAXPAYER MONEY TO PROMOTE TAP WATER -- It's the kind of useless waste that Governor Pawlenty has been talking about for years. The city of Minneapolis is spending nearly $200,000 to convince people to drink tap water. They even created a website -- at the cost of $75,000. Mayor R.T. Rybak even admits that it was his idea!
RUUD FUDGES THE FACTS IN THE BUDGET DEBATE -- Congratulations to local blogger Sheila Kihne for doing some great research into Rep. Maria Ruud's recent fumble during the recent Eden Prairie Town Hall Meeting.
ONE HUNDRED PERCENT GDP -- It's hard to fathom these numbers, but the United States is approaching a new benchmark. We will soon owe an amount equal to everything we make in a year. From the Financial Times: "Under President Barack Obama's budget plan, the federal debt is exploding...With no change in policy, it could hit 100 percent of GDP in just another five years." Exploding debt will eventually mean a drop in credit rating, exploding inflation and increased interest rates. How high? One investor expects U.S. hyperinflation may soon reach third world levels.
A NATIONAL SALES TAX -- Yet another Democrat trial balloon: Let's just tax everybody!
MEANWHILE -- While you're being asked to sacrifice, Obama's Presidential fundraising trips are leaving taxpayers with a hefty tab.
A DECLARATION OF WAR AGAINST GUN OWNERS -- Obama's nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court says "the right to possess a gun is clearly not a fundamental right."
“THE LONGER CHANGES ARE POSTPONED, THE MORE WRENCHING THEY WILL BE” -- Robert Samuelson once again discusses the entitlement crisis.
SCANDAL AT EP SCHOOLS -- As recession-starved classrooms struggle for resources, Melissa Krull, the superintendent of Eden Prairie School District, gets a generous raise and rakes in $225,000 per year.
POLL: AMERICANS WANT LESS GOVERNMENT, LESS SPENDING -- Most Americans hear a politician say he wants to "invest" their tax dollars, they understand that it means that government will be doing more SPENDING, not saving.
RED INK RISING: OBAMA BUDGET BORROWS 50 CENTS FOR EVERY DOLLAR SPENT -- "Borrowing" means that one day it will have to be paid back. With interest. This means that one day the government will own your children and grandchildren. The AP reports that the federal deficit will top $1.8 trillion, 4 times 2008's record. Thanks to the faltering economy, Social Security will start to go broke one year sooner than expected. Not scared yet? Take a look at these horrifying graphs.
“Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy.” -- Winston Churchill
THE MYTH OF THE 46 MILLION -- Obama is laying out his case for socialized medicine. To support his agenda, he makes political speeches claiming that there are “nearly 46 million uninsured” -- one in six Americans! The New York Times and Minneapolis Star-Tribune echo the claim, asserting that there are “46 million uninsured Americans”. Phillip Klein examines the numbers and discovers that they are lying.
SPENDING AWAY OUR FUTURE -- According to a new Gallup poll, a majority of Americans now doubt that they will have enough money to retire on.
SIX MEMBERS OF MINNESOTA'S DELEGATION GET AN "F" FOR SPENDING VOTES -- The National Taxpayer's Union has come out with their annual report on Congress. Klobuchar, Walz, McCollum, Ellison, Peterson and Oberstar -- all Democrats -- earnd an "F", meaning that they approved almost every spending program that came their way and opposed almost every effort to reduce taxes.
